Embracer Group gave information about the sales performance of Biomutant with its statement.
Developed by the Swedish studio Experiment 101, Biomutant was released at the end of May; Embracer Group announced today that the game has sold 1 million in its financial report.
“One week after the game’s release, we’ve subtracted all our investment in the development and marketing of the game, plus the acquisition cost of Experiment 101 and IP,” says Embracer.
THQ Nordic, owned by Embracer, bought Experiment 101 and the rights to Biomutant for approximately £6.2 million. The company commented that Biomutant’s sales “matched with our expectations”, but frankly, 1 million sales of a game that was so advertised seemed a little low to me.
Just today, we reported that the developer of Outriders was unaware of the sales numbers of the game. People Can Fly announced that although the game sold 3-4 million copies, it still could not receive royalties, indicating that Square Enix could not afford the cost. On the one hand, Outriders, who could not afford the cost with 4 million sales, and on the other hand, Biomutant, which only paid for the purchase of itself and its studio with 1 million sales. Interesting.
