Retro Games Ltd, creator of the C64 Small, has now announced the A500 Small, a small console based on the Commodore Amiga 500.
The A500 Small will be available in early 2022 and is priced at $140 / €130. We can say that it is quite valuable compared to the C64 Small.
There will be 25 classic Amiga games in the console and you will be able to run your own Amiga ROMs (in adf format) via USB stick, and you will be able to benefit from the WHDLoad supplement if you wish.
A two-button mouse using Amiga’s famous tank mouse design and a controller inspired by the Amiga CD32 controller will also come with the A500 Small. Of course, its keyboard is not functional as in the C64 Small, but you can connect an additional keyboard if you wish. They will probably release a version with a functional keyboard later on.
12 of the 25 games in the system have been announced, they are as follows:
- Alien Breed 3D
- Another World
- ATR: All Terrain Racing
- Battle Chess
- Kick Off 2
- Pinball Dreams
- Simon the Sorcerer
- Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe
- The Chaos Engine
- Worms: The Director’s Cut
Nice choices, but Amiga has so many cult games that even if they added 25, 125 games, some would be left out. Although the A500 Small looks nice in terms of ease of use, I don’t think it will be much different from Pi based emulators, so I prefer to continue using the real Amiga 500 🙂 It’s obvious that it will be a nice alternative if you don’t have to deal with it.
