CoD: Black Ops Cold War

In an extensive stream, Treyarch and Activision presented the multiplayer of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. There was a lot of information about modes, weapons, maps and more.

Lots of explosions, a rap song and cool staged moves, the trailer for the multiplayer of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War was one thing above all: Loud! The revelation was more than smoke and mirrors, the team around Game Design Director David Vonderhaar had a lot of information ready.

Loadouts, Perks and Scorestreaks

Black Ops Cold War has a “Create a Class” system. You choose a primary and a secondary weapon, plus one tactical and one lethal equipment, three perks, a field upgrade and a wild card.

Each weapon has a good 45 different attachments, five of which can always be screwed onto the weapon, unless you use the “Gunfighter” wildcard, then there are eight. You unlock the attachments by leveling up the weapon. Other wildcards are for example “Law Breaker“, with which you can equip every weapon and every perk in all slots. Another is “Perk Greed”, this card gives you three extra perks.

The perks have three slots again. These should all look familiar to Call of Duty veterans. Field upgrades include, for example, a proximity mine or a Sam Turret, which shoots missiles at enemy air support.

There was a big change in the scorestreaks, your counter won’t be reset to zero when you die. However, the more kills you accumulate in a lifetime, the more flows into your score account. So that the map doesn’t glow like a Christmas tree before Scorestreaks, the streaks have a cooldown time.

Modes and Maps

In the case of the maps, five were initially presented:

  • Armada
  • Crossroads
  • Miami
  • Satellite
  • Moscow

Vehicles such as gunboats, jet skis and tanks await you on the Armada and Crossroads maps. Crossroads is also a special mode. Combined Arms: Domination is a 12v.12 mode in which goals on the map have to be fulfilled gradually.

Another new mode is called VIP Escort. One player in the team of six is the VIP and must be brought to a pick-up point on the map by the other players. The VIP does not have a self-selected class, but a fixed loadout and special skills.

Warzone integration

Black Ops Cold War will not just be a cross-platform, cross-generation game, which means that in a group of five players, everyone can play on a different platform (PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One and PC). Warzone will combine Modern Warfare and Black Ops Cold War. Everything you have earned in Warzone so far can be taken to BOCW. In the future, the games, events and Battle Pass will be shared.
