DJI Osmo Pocket review with all the details under the lens. With its innovative products, the successful name of the world of technology, DJI targets its brand-new product Osmo Pocket and its vloggers and YouTubers.
DJI Osmo Pocket, DJI’s newest product, was finally launched in November and we had the opportunity to evaluate the finger-size camera model with its pros and cons. Osmo Pocket, the world’s smallest camera that can be fixed in three axes image stabilization, although a small body, draws attention with the powerful features it offers. DJI uses the miniature gimbal stabilization in Osmo Pocket, which allows smooth videos to be taken with the gimbal systems it uses in its Drone and Osmo family. Let’s start with the design before the curious performance of the device.
DJI Osmo Pocket Scoring 8.6/10
Let’s say that this excitement increases when we take the DJI Osmo Pocket out of the box. Osmo Pocket is incredibly small for a camera with a mechanical gimbal. Many people around us were very impressed by the small size and features of the DJI Osmo Pocket.
It should be noted that the device that attracts the attention of the people provides a comfortable use experience. Osmo Pocket, which comes with protection from the contents of the box, weighs 116 grams. Compared to Osmo Mobile 2, Osmo Pocket is much more portable than Osmo Mobile 2, which can be used with smartphones.
The one-touch touch screen is another key feature in the pants or jacket pocket. Although the size of this screen is small, it is possible to make a live view on the screen. It is easy to set up on the camera. It is useful to underline only. Osmo Pocket certain settings can be done through this screen. To use all the features in the camera, you need to install Osmo Pocket on your smartphone. With the USB-C or Lightning connection, smartphones are easily connected to Osmo Pocket. When connected, the display of smart phones can be used as a viewfinder.
When the extra Wi-Fi module is purchased, you can transfer wireless images when purchased, and the fastest way to transfer photos or videos is through a wired connection. 60 frames per second 4K video recording in the image transfer can not be done unfortunately. Osmo Pocket has two physical keys on it. The first key is to switch the device on / off and the other button to start / stop recording. Press the second button once to quickly switch to the photo or video mode. Pressing this button three times can take selfie shots. It’s a pity that we didn’t have a tripod port in Osmo Pocket, even though we were pleased with the USB-C connection underneath the device.
The microSD card port is located on the right side of the device. Osmo Pocket has a total of two microphones, one in front and one in the front. For users who find this microphone performance inadequate, the DJI offers an optional 3.5 adapter for external microphone support. Although Osmo Pocket is not as water-resistant as the GoPro action cameras, the DJI also offers an option for this. In case of the purchase of waterproof case, DJI Osmo Pocket can be used easily under 60 meters of water.
If you think that DJI Osmo Pocket has a small design and doesn’t have a strong performance, you’re wrong. We would like to state that we have been very satisfied since we used the performance of DJI Osmo Pocket. The 1 / 2.3-inch sensor is capable of capturing 12 Megapixels and supporting up to 60 frames per second. The video bit rate is 100 Mbps. Osmo Pocket also features a 120-frame slow-motion mode.
Osmo Pocket has shown top performance in 4K and Full HD videos. Having achieved outstanding performance in light conditions, Osmo Pocket still has a good performance despite the poor performance of light. We were more than satisfied with the video performance and the photo performance.
The video stabilization system we’re used to from DJI’s drones is also working successfully on this device. Osmo Pocket used in jogging, 3-axis stabilization system with the help of jerkless videos. It is also possible to choose ND filter for DJI Osmo Pocket for high exposure environments.
If you plan to use the DJI Osmo Pocket underwater, you can purchase the optional underwater canister. We are familiar with the Phantom and Mavic series. With ActiveTrack, you can mark a moving object on your mobile device screen and let Osmo Pocket automatically follow these objects. It is useful to underline only. The ActiveTrack feature works well on slow-moving objects, but it can also fade in fast-moving objects.
