Are you a patient person? Don’t you get tired of starting everything from scratch without getting tired as you take frequent blows and hit the ground on the road to success? These are good qualities, of course. If you have these features, congratulations, you’re ready to play Hades too πŸ™‚ Yes, we are talking about one of the most anticipated games of recent times. Hades, a rogue-like game where you can’t get enough of dying again, is SuperGiant’s newest game that has been dragging us for 1.5 years to release. I think it would not be wrong to say that this game, which was produced by Supergiant Games, the manufacturer of Bastian, who made a name for himself once again, is a masterpiece.

Although he knows Hades as the youth of a period, the evil character in the “fantastic” local fantasy series called Selena, he is actually the underworld lord who rules over the dead in Greek mythology. While Zeus shared the dominance of the earth in the midst of his brothers, he gave himself the sky, Poseidon the seas, and Hades the underground. Hades lives in Tartarus with his son Zagreus. However, Zagreus is now fed up with Tartarus and wants to reach Mount Olympus and live with other gods, even though his father is against it. Hades, on the other hand, does not mind his son because he is not able to escape from Tartarus, and Zagreus’ escape adventure begins. All over again, every time!

Not the rogue-like games you know

A rogue-like game with an isometric camera angle like Hades, Diablo. By the way, let me state; we can’t say that we usually like rogue-like games too much. Not everyone has enough patience to turn around and play the same floors as they die. But Hades is not like that. In this game, the room behind each door is randomly generated in the adventure that starts from Tartarus and extends to Mount Olympus. So even if we go back to the beginning, a different experience awaits us every time. The feeling of repetition is diminished. Moreover, we do not lose everything. We are left with the keys we found to unlock more powerful weapons and the darkness tool we collected for character development. In this way, we start the game stronger in our new attempt and we can progress a little more each time. As they say “What doesn’t kill Underworld makes you stronger” πŸ˜›

The Underworld that does not kill strengthens!

The place where we first started the game and returned when we died is actually Hades’ throne room. Here, we can get various information and advance the story by talking to the characters around. Sometimes these characters can also provide abilities and weapons to aid our escape. Of course, every time we come back, we progress and meet new characters. When we move on from the right side, we reach the room of our character Zagreus. Mirror of Night here is pretty precious. Thanks to this mirror, we can use the darkness we collect to strengthen Zagreus’ passive abilities. In the bed in the room, you are not always allowed to rest, but keep trying. Let me leave here the clue that you will learn about a great development about the parable in the future πŸ˜‰

There are six guns in our gun room that we unlock using keys. The game has a very successful mechanic to prevent you from choosing a single weapon and sticking to it. If you don’t use a weapon for a long time, it starts to spread darkness around you. If you use that weapon in this form, you can get more darkness while fighting. This encourages you to use different weapons. In the cabinet to the left of the weapons, there are objects called keepsakes, which give us different properties as long as we carry them. With these objects that you can find in the game, for example, when you die, it is possible to continue without returning for once. We can get these keepsakes in exchange for the treats we give to the NPCs we talk to throughout the game. So what I’m saying is that you don’t have a scorpion in your pocket.

We draw the attention of the lords of Olympus

After a period of time after our escape effort, the gods of Olympos also find out and start helping us. There are also special abilities called Boon that Zeus, Artemis and Aphrodite randomly offer us from time to time. While each deity offers these abilities, it offers three options and we can choose one according to our fighting style. These abilities affect our power to dodge (Dash), long range attacks (Cast), and attack (Attack). Of course, these abilities are not permanent and we lose them when we die first. In the game, we proceed by clearing the randomly created rooms behind each door. After a room has been cleared, the game offers us a choice of one or two more doors. On these doors, we can see the reward we will receive if we clean the next room. After cleaning a certain number of rooms, we are entitled to go to the next floor. The usual thing is to get rid of the bosses first.

In the last period, we played Hades on Xbox Series S, which is one of the games you can play for free with Xbox Game Pass, where quality productions with over 90 points from the authorities are added back and forth. Visually reflecting the typical Supergiant style; With his drawings, color palette and animations, he manages to surpass his previous games. With 4k/60fps, we didn’t have the slightest problem with performance either. I am sure that all the dialogues are voiced aside, their wonderful music will be remembered for a long time. Again, I’d say give Hades a shot, even if you’ve been wary of the rogue-like variety until now. It is one of the few games we have given over 90 points in recent periods. And since it’s completely free with Xbox Game Pass, you have nothing to lose anyway πŸ™‚
