Huawei FreeBuds Pro tried out
Apple dominates the headphones market with the AirPods Pro. There are many manufacturers trying to sell a competitive alternative. Nobody has really prevailed so far. The Huawei FreeBuds Pro could do that – even if the ANC headphones from China are not perfect. We were able to try out the headphones in advance.
Huawei FreeBuds Pro officially presented
With the Huawei FreeBuds Pro, the Chinese company has a clear goal. They want to offer the best in-ear ANC headphones on the market. The angular design was chosen deliberately. Personally, the area that protrudes from the ear is a bit too thick for me. In my opinion, Apple is ahead with its slightly curved design. The area that goes into the ear, however, is optimally shaped and fits perfectly into my ear. This is due to the fact that the earphones are not only held in the ears with the plugs but also have several support points. I wore the headphones for several hours while working and can confirm that the seat is very comfortable. You quickly forget that you have something in your ear.
You just have to get used to the operation. Pushing and swiping over the headphones feels weird at first and doesn’t always work. If I want to skip a song, it works, but at the same time I turn up the volume very often. That shouldn’t be the case if you are already thinking about a different control system.
Technically, however, the Huawei headphones come up trumps. The company uses 11 mm drivers that are mechanically stabilized to guarantee optimized sound when moving. Do you notice any of it? At least I feel a bit clearer when doing sports compared to the Sony WF-1000XM3, which I usually use. The feeling is supported by the ANC, which generates up to 40 dB of counter noise. Competitors manage 33 to 38 dB. The active noise suppression can also be controlled dynamically by the headphones themselves. If you can hear a lot of ambient noise, the ANC is stronger. When the environment is quieter, the ANC is also lower. In this way, Huawei reduces the artificially generated pressure on the ears, which I know from my Bose QuietComfort 35, for example. For me personally, the ANC of the Huawei headphones is actually the best noise-canceling I’ve used so far.
The Huawei FreeBuds Pro not only trumps with a good ANC, sound when playing music and seat but also with surprisingly good sound when making calls. The other person was surprised at how good my voice sounds through the Huawei headphones – despite the relatively loud ambient noise. Huawei achieves this with the use of three microphones and bone conduction. The bone sensor detects the voice and transmits it more clearly.
The battery life of the FreeBuds Pro is given by Huawei with activated ANC at 4.5 hours. Without the ANC it is 7 hours. The battery case lasts up to 30 hours. The case can not only be charged via USB-C, but also via wireless charging.
First conclusion on the Huawei FreeBuds Pro
I’m really surprised at how much I like the Huawei FreeBuds Pro. I’ve tried a lot of headphones with and without ANC and am now sticking to the FreeBuds Pro. The version in white was made available to us. But there is still black and shiny silver. Even if I’m not a fan of shiny surfaces, I like the silver version best. The price is $ 236.00 according to Amazon.
