James McAvoy, whom we know from many TV series and movies, especially the young professor Xavier in X-Men movies, most recently voiced with Willem Dafoe and Daisy Ridley in the 12 Minutes video game. McAvoy also talked about his acting background and Oblivion addiction in his Forbes interview, where he talked about 12 Minutes.
The famous actor got so caught up in Oblivion in 2006 that he started to have serious problems during the shooting of Becoming Jane.
“Normally I had to go to bed at 10 o’clock because I got up at 6 every morning. There were pages of dialogues etc. I had to work on. But I was playing Oblivion until four in the morning,” says the actor.
In fact, he would start playing games around 8:00 pm and leave at 5:35, and go to the shooting location by the car that came 10 minutes later. At this point, he decided that it was necessary to find a solution, took the disc of the game from the Xbox 360, put it on the stove and burned it, destroying Oblivion.
“I put the disc on the stove and watched it blacken and melt a bit. It was then ‘that’s it, we’re done, never again!’ I was thinking,” says McAvoy. After this incident, it remained different from the games for almost a decade, then he started playing FIFA with his son and Warzone with his friends recently.
It’s not uncommon to destroy a disk to get rid of addiction. Years ago, I did the exact same thing to a Championship Manager addicted friend of mine and broke the game disc. Even though it ended in the first place, he thanked me afterwards 🙂
