Nvidia’s new graphics cards have caused a stir in the hardware world. Few had expected such a big leap in performance. Above all, the new top model should have it all and break all records – Nvidia is sure of that.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090: Expensive top graphics card should enable 8K gaming at 60 FPS

According to the latest Steam hardware survey, the most popular resolution among gamers is still classic Full HD. 65.6 percent play in 1080p, just 6.6 percent in WQHD and only 2.2 percent switched to 4K.

Nvidia doesn’t seem to care. The graphics card manufacturer goes one step further with the new RTX 3090. While the top models of the last generation were often touted as 4K monsters, the new $ 1,499.00 GPU should even be suitable for playing in 8K. In relation: 8K offers four times the resolution of 4K and 16 times the resolution of Full HD. Nvidia proves with benchmarks and a video that this is not just a mere marketing joke:

The first test results from Nvidia make a very convincing impression, although it should be noted that there are many games among the tested games that also run without problems on weaker systems. After all, according to Nvidia, the graphics settings were always set to “high”.

Shooters like Apex Legends and Rainbow Six Siege run at an average of more than 60 FPS, with raytracing titles like Control and Wolfenstein: Youngblood, the frame rate can also be increased to smooth values thanks to DLSS. While 8K gaming is unlikely to be of interest to most users, games in 4K or WQHD could benefit from a significantly higher frame rate in this way.

However, Nvidia pays dearly for this high level of performance. The RTX 3090 is said to cost $ 1,499.00 at launch. If you also want to upgrade but spend less, you can use the RTX 3070 for $ 499.00 or the RTX 3080 for $ 699.00 instead. It also remains to be seen what AMD has in store with RDNA 2. According to rumors, not even the “Nvidia killer” Big Navi can match the performance of an RTX 3090.
