The concept of short and repetitive images was adopted by Vine years ago, and later developed and taken over by TikTok. After TikTok made this concept popular again, some social media platforms also followed this trend, Reels‘ and ‘ Shorts features were released. The last name to join this trend with a new update was Reddit.
Reddit, which functions as a discussion platform where users can communicate by sharing photos and images, has opened the short image section that adds TikTok air to the platform. The image button that appears quickly next to the search button, is now brought to iOS only.
Displaying images that were previously on the platform
After YouTube’s Shorts and Instagram’s Reels “I was missing one” said Reddit took the first step to create an effective short image section on its platform. An update to the platform, which originally operated with the concept of a forum, added a view button next to the search button. The working principle of the section, which is opened when the button is pressed, is the same as the similar attempts of other social media platforms: As soon as you enter the section, an image appears before you. You can navigate in the middle of the images by swiping up and down. The images you like also probably affect the images that you will see later in this section.
The feature, which is slowly coming to devices today, is only limited to iOS devices for now. In fact, we are used to this situation from most of the applications. How the algorithm works is currently unknown. TikTok is a platform known for its unique algorithm. But since Reddit is essentially a forum site, it may show images relative to responsive posts. In addition, the images shown are not produced according to this feature, as on other platforms. When you open this section, all of the images that appear before you are already placed under the posts. But in the future, presumably with the feature coming to Android as well. We can also see a snapshot feature on Reddit.
