[ In our Weekly Unforgettable Soundtracks column, we remember together the soundtracks that leave deep traces and sweet memories in all of us. ]
Swampling is a lonely character. He is overjoyed when we enter his dwelling in the swamp, for finally someone remembers him!
Swampling’s birthday was two weeks ago. Nobody came to celebrate his birthday because he didn’t have a single friend, but he still did not lose hope, he thought, “Sooner or later a guest will come, we will celebrate”. That’s why he does his best to please us.
I is so pleased!
We probably don’t have a cake, but he cooked the Swamp Stew, which he made from swamp mud and whose definition was passed down from generation to generation, and he insists that we eat it. Poor Swampling is actually alone, basically has no friends, and will be even more upset if we don’t taste his stew. When I couldn’t stand the smell of the food and rejected his offer, how can we stand it when he starts to cry saying “I thought he was my first birthday friend until now. No one comes to see me anymore”?
We’re eating plate of swamp stew, our faces turning green, because that’s the only way out of that dwelling without upsetting Swampling. When he finishes his stew, he thinks we like it very much and goes out to collect new ingredients, so we leave this distorted, cute character behind us and continue on our way.
Although Simon the Sorcerer is basically a funny game exactly like the Monkey Island series, Swampling’s story has always saddened me. This has nothing to do with the fact that I played the game at a young age, moreover, even though I played it again and again, I always had the same feelings, always in the same place, always with the same music. Even now, when I think of Simon the Sorcerer, this must be the reason why Swampling music comes to mind even before the theme music.
If you have played the game, you will go to the past as soon as you press the Play button of the image below, naturally if you did not find yourself there when you read these lines 🙂
